Some Recent Events

So, another really cool thing that has happened since the last posting is my little brother Matt got married and my whole family was able to fly back and be there for the wedding. Aaron and I were so grateful to be able to go and that Matt waited for us to start the ceremony even though we were an HOUR late. (Curse D.C. traffic!!!) We were also able to go tour a little of D.C. which was cool for Aaron since he had never been there before. It was an eventful trip, of which I will spare the details, but I am so excited for Matt and Kimberly and so happy we were able to be a part of it. Oh, and all of the dance classes that Matt took in college definitely paid off...I'm thinking of putting his little shenanigan on YouTube.

Also, Jonah graduated from ABC/123 pre-school. He had a great year. He had so much fun and made some friends and all around had a wonderful experience. He absolutely loved it, which is the most important thing.

Its About Time!!!

OK, so alot has happened since my last blog entry and I will try to catch everyone up without being long about it. First of all, we did have a new baby born into our family on February 11, 2010. It was a baby boy we named Micah Raymond Butterfield the middle name was after my father and grandfather). The first name was Aaron's pick and I wasn't even a fan, but for some reason when he came out and we saw him we both knew his name would be Micah even though we had some other favorites on the table. So, I'm still getting used to it, but we know it was the right one to choose. He came out 9lbs. 3 oz. and has not stopped growing since (his nickname was Moose when he was born). He even gained weight in the hospital. Today he is 4 months old and sits at a whopping 19 lbs. So, I didn't have a little baby for long and boy are my arms tired. He has a very sweet personality unless he is bored or tired and then he gets angry and roars. He talks more than any of my other babies and will tell his dad all kinds of stories when he holds him (as you see in the one video, he also gives him other surprises as well). Yes, apparently he is what they call a "happy puker" even though I'm not sure he's that happy about it. Jonah and Anya adore him and are so good with him. So, here are a few pics and videos to show you the little tyke.

It's Christmas!

So, as some of you already know, we didn't go to NY for the holidays for the first time in I don't know how long, so we actually got to decorate our house and enjoy Christmas at home in CA. It was about 60 degrees and sunny and it was oh so nice, although very weird without the snow. The kids had a wonderful Christmas, and got everything they wanted and then some, mostly because of "Santa" who apparently has relocated to Afghanistan temporarily. He must be trying to bring them the Christmas spirit so everyone can be happy and our families can come home. Anyway, while opening presents there were many comments from Jonah like, "This is the best Christmas ever!" and "I'm so lucky!" and "It's just what I wanted!" So, I'm glad he was grateful and excited, but I fear all of my emphasis on serving and giving I tried to concentrate on throughout the beginning of the month was lost. Oh well, there is always next year. Well, here are a few choice photos.

Playing Catch Up

So, I don't think I've posted since September...so for a quick synopsis of the highlights of the last 4 months. Here are a few ditties...(I apologize if the order of pictures to text is reversed...I still don't have this thing figured out).

In October to celebrate the Halloween Festivities, Jonah had a field trip to a pumpkin patch. You can see him here with his class. It was rainy and muddy that day, but we still got to do some fun things, including shooting a corn cannon.

Speaking of corn, corn on the cob has become a favorite of Anya’s and it is quite comical how well she can eat one. She is also good at eating Cream of Wheat and Spaghetti. She slurps better than I do!

Some other things Anya enjoys doing are coloring…that can keep her attention for like 15 minutes (which is huge for Anya), reading, and dancing with her brother (she copies all of his rad moves…or at least tries to.) Sometimes she just likes to sit and watch TV with her brother (for like 5 minutes).

For Halloween this year, Jonah was Spiderman and Anya chose to be a bee (which was really cool because we already had a bee costume from Jonah when he was that age.) So, when it cam time for Aaron and I to dress up, I decided to make a quick spider costume with a big hourglass on my growing belly and Aaron was a beekeeper. Not too fancy, but for something thrown together in half an hour, I think it was pretty good.

So, there is no real story that goes with the picture of Jonah vacuuming out the car, but I just wanted to show off what a good helper my little man is. What a stud!

We also got to take an awesome trip to Utah to see one of our favorite families get sealed together in the temple. We bought a minivan, then drove to Monterey, CA for a few days where we got to go to the ocean and the aquarium, then drove to UT where we got to hang out with some old friends including the Warners and the Ruanos. Here is a picture of Anya and her new best friend Zoe Warner at a pumpkin patch in UT. Then here is one of our favorite families (the Ruanos) on the day they were sealed in the temple. We were so blessed to be able to go and witness it, it was such a beautiful event.

Anya, My Little Personality

Now Anya has developed quite the personality. In fact, I think I've caught a glimpse of what I'm going to be dealing with when she is a teenager and frankly I'm a little nervous. But she is so darn cute and she has so much personality I can't help but just laugh at her most of the time now. The one good thing is she seems to have a desire to help mom, so hopefully she keeps that up through the years. You can see that here as she is helping me to unload the dishwasher...yeah, she needs a little practice. She loves to do ANYTHING her brother does, so she is learning all sorts of tricks like somersaults and wrestling. She already climbs fairly large slides and goes down on her own (she is actually quite coordinated and careful). She also likes to read books and walk the dog (we found the perfect dog her size at a party we were at one day). She wants to try everything...she even hung from a pull up bar by herself at my father-in-laws house for about 15 seconds when she saw the bigger cousins trying to do pull ups...it was hilarious and I wish I had the picture to post. Anyway, enjoy some of these little ditties.

Jonah is a Pre-schooler

So, this September Jonah started pre-school and he was so excited to be going to school. It's funny becasue I was going to send him to one that was run out of a person's home, but he didn't want to go there becasue it wasn't at a "real" school. He definitely wants to be a big boy. So we stocked him with the necessary Spiderman lunchbox and sent him on his way and he has never looked back. When I came to pick him up the first day of school he actually glared at me. I guess there will be no tears necessary when I send him off to Kindergarten as I have so often heard of other moms and their kids. It made me kind of sad, but I'm glad he is enjoying himself so much. He is learning to write his letters and to write him name. He has actually known how to write his name since he was two, but now he is learning to write it in a straight line and not all over the page in 5 different sizes so that's good. He says he likes the Arts and Crafts part of school the most. I personally think he just likes to use scissors becasue he is always cutting things up. He also started soccer about the same time and loved that too. Although, when I tried to get him to practice at home he said, "why, I;m already really good." So now we have to work on humility. Anyway, he is actually quite good at ball handling and he is a good listener. So, that is the update on my little man.

Grandpa's Visit to CA

OK, so this new is a little old. My dad came out here to CA to visit when he came home on leave back in August. We did some really fun things and Jonah especially loved the bonding time. It was so sweet to see him cry when he had to tell Grandpa goodbye. We definitely look forward to seeing him more often when he FINALLY gets home and STAYS home. We took him to the Jelly Belly Factory where they make all of those crazy flavors of jelly beans. I guess Ronald Reagan was a big fan and so they made a picture of him out of jelly beans. I thought it only appropriate to get a picture of my dad with it since he is one of his heroes. We also got to take him to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Turtle Bay, and he got to take Jonah fishing. We didn't catch anything (not like the big catch we got in NY...an assortment of crappies and sunnies), but it was still a beautiful day. Thanks for the memories Grandpa!

Thursday Market in Chico

So in most of the bigger cities around here they have an ongoing event in the summer called Thursday Night Market where there is entertainment along with fresh produce of course. We met up with one of Aaron's best friends from high school, Wes, who lives in Chico along with one of his other best friends from high school, Lane (who lives in Redding), and their wives and kids. (In the picture L - R: Abby & Ayana (Lane & Julie Carlson's kids), Anya, Jacob (Wes & Carolyn's kid), and Jonah) The kids had fun running around together...and dancing. It was really funny. And talk about dancing, although I did not get this on video, unfortunately, Anya and I were watching the belly dancers and Anya was trying to copy their moves. It was really funny to watch. Especially when she would place her hands behind her head and turn around to see if everyone was watching. She is such a ham!

Anya's Antics

Anya loves playing superhero with her big brother. I don't know if she truly understands what she is doing, but she likes the idea of running around with a cape (hooded bath towel) on like her brother and insists that I put it on her at some point most mornings.

She has also decided she likes to eat with utensils now like a big girl. She will eventually get frustrated and give up most times half way through the meal, but this time she did really well. Unfortunately, what you don't see here is she got it all over her face by the end of the meal...and everywhere the oatmeal touched there was a big red splotch on her face, so I'm guessing she was allergic to something in it...I guess I won't be giving her that anymore darn it.

Jonah Turns 4

Jonah turned four years old on July 17th, so this past weekend we threw him a party at the gymnastics center that he loves to go to. I can't blame him with all of the trampolines and foam block pits and things to swing on. Its a hyper active kids dream, and even the adults enjoyed bouncing around, except for the fact that it was 109 degrees that day and even with the airconditioners and swamp cooler on we were all sweating like crazy. But it was a nice stress-free birthday for me at least, which was my main goal since we invited about 15 kids and I was not excited about the prospect of having that many kids running around my house for a couple of hours. Well worth it.

Anya is an Athlete

Well, my baby is officially a toddler, although I feel like she has been one for a few months now. She is definitely one coordinated little girl. She can climb up slides and slide back down, climb up climbing walls (with some assistance in finding the foot holds), and she even plays baseball and soccer now. If it wasn't for her fascination with pink sparkly shoes I would think she was a total Tomboy.

Anya Turns One!

Anya turned one on July 7th. So, for her birthday I attempted my first creative cake. It turned out ok I guess, but it was too stressful and I don't think I'll be attempting that again. But here are some pictures for proof. I did TRY to live up to my name and bake. When we sang to her she didn't really get it, but the next day if anyone sang it she would try to sing along too. Here she is with her cousins and Grandpa Dave and opening presents as well.

4th of July

So here is a brief recap of our July so far. It is a busy month between the holiday and the birthdays, but it is also alot of fun. I'm so greatful for our two beautiful children. We are truly blessed!

So for the 4th of July we went to Burney Falls, a couple of hours away and went hiking. We found out AFTER we got there that they didn't allow dogs, so we couldn't actually hike the falls like we hoped, but we snuck down for a picture and then hiked elsewhere.

Afterwards, we went to the Redding fireworks display, which was actually really good. We sat at the baseball field across from where they were putting them on right along the baseline between second and third (like old times dad). I was anxious to see what Anya would do. She watched them transfixed for about 30 seconds, then she was more interested in running around and trying to visit with the neighboring people and just enjoying her freedom outdoors. I must say I spent more time chasing her then watching them myself, but it was still fun. Jonah just sat with daddy and enjoyed them without being scared for once so that was good.

Anya started walking a couple of weeks ago. She is still a little unsteady and needs to build some strength in her legs because they start to wobble after a while, but for 10 months I think she's pretty good.

Here are a few pictures from when we were saying good-bye to Grandpa...Again! He is back off to the Middle East for another deployment where we won't see him for another year. We were definitely blessed to be able to go to NY to see him off though. It was interesting because for the most part on the trip, Anya didn't really want grandpa holding her, but she must have sensed something was going on because she was sure good at the goodbyes.

Anya loves to ride anything she can get her hands on...rocking horses, tricycles, anything that moves, even if they are for bigger kids (actually, I think that's why). She wants to jump into everything she sees her brother doing (and some things he won't do). She is quite fearless. Luckily she is careful though.

Jonah LOVES to play superhero, so I got him this Batman sleepwear. Well, as you can imagine he loves wearing it (and still tries to wear it when it's 90 degrees out). Sometimes he combines them and he is SpiderIceBatman or things like that. The really funny thing is he has never seen an episode of any of them and if Aaron tries to put on one of the cartoon he doesn't want to watch it...go figure.

So, I have not been on my blog yet since the New Year rang in and not much has changed with the family, except of course Anya, who will continue to change daily over the next few months. Just a quick update...Anya is now crawling, and standing, and dancing...and she LOVES to take toys away from her brother. She has no desire to play with her toys, but goes straight for his every time. Jonah is a great big brother and although he shows mild annoyance at his sister's precocious ways, he is very gentle and loving. He loves to play with his cousins and friends and is now very sad when he does not get to see them on a daily basis. He has become fond of helping me in the kitchen and can get everything out for his own breakfast when its cereal (although I still prefer to pour the milk), he makes his own PB&J sandwich (although I still prefer to spread the jelly for him), and he makes pancakes and knows all of the ingredients that go into it by heart. He has recently added egg salad to his repertoire of things he can make (see the picture). He is also taking gymnastics still and loves to do Kung Fu...which is also his favorite movie of the moment (Kung Fu Panda). Aaron is still plugging away at work and has become our baby girl's go to guy. I am still trying to stay ahead of a clean house and keep my children intellectually stimulated, as well as myself. I have also been running on the treadmill and it appears as though it is finally paying off...phew, I'm tired! Well, here are a few recent pictures and videos.

Anya has a special relationship with our dog Darby. She loves Darby so much and the dog can sense that so even though she knows she is going to get poked and tugged on she will still gently crawl over and put her head on her lap. It is very sweet!

Anya is just a bundle of curiosity. She already loves looking at herself in the mirror and ESPECIALLY videos of herself that I post on here. She gets all excited and starts talking to herself and jumping up and down. The other day we actually got her to laugh by pretending to sneeze...it totally made my day.

Jonah has also started taking a little gymnastics class at the YMCA so he can tame some of his tricks. There are two videos here...one is him doing his tricks at home and the other is at his gymnastics class. He did really well actually even though he is actually a bit younger than he is supposed to be in the class.

So, Jonah has had an exciting last month. We took him on a little vacation down to Vallejo, CA to go to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. It is a really great place for kids because it has alot of animal attractions, which is his favorite. We saw Shouka the Killer Whale and some sea lions and a dolphin show and there are also many kid rides. Here is a picture of Aaron and Jonah in a yellow submarine.

We also went to a pumpkin patch on a real farm this last Saturday with his "second cousin twice removed?", Grady, so he could pick out his own pumpkin this year. There was also a hay maze and animals and a little train and all sorts of fun stuff.

Just a Little Update

Anya is getting so big and expressive. She LOVES to be awake and look around at everything. If she is up she either wants to be sitting up or standing up and gets very angry if we try to cradle her in our arms because she might miss something. She is getting quite chubby too, which I'm excited about since Jonah was always a rail. Speaking of Jonah, he is very much in love with his little sister and I fear if we let him he would love her to death. His hugs and kisses can be quite dangerous at times. Recently, he has been enjoying making new friends and is becoming quite the socialite on the playground. We tried him in a karate class because that's what he loves to do at home, but we both decided he should wait until he is 4. He was a little shy for that. He will stick to doing his "tricks" at home. I will have to see if I can post some one of these days. Anyway, here are a few updated videos and pics.

Well, our little girl will be 4 weeks old tomorrow and boy has she changed. I was bragging to everyone about how perfect she is because she never cries and sleeps all of the time and if anything I have to wake her up to feed her. Well, at about 3 weeks old that has all changed. She has decided she really like being awake. She has also found her lungs and uses them quite often when I need to get things done. She is still a very sweet good baby, especially for her dad (I guess she is the classic daddy's girl). Which, I have my momma's boy with Jonah, so its as it should be. Luckily, she is still good to me at night and I don't have to get up to often during those dreaded hours. Jonah is still in love with her and is always asking "can I see her", which means can he stick his face in her face and shower her with kisses.

Jonah is now 3 years old(on the 17th)! We had his birthday party 2 weeks ago. We rented a bounce house and had about 14 kids bouncing off the walls, literally. It was a great time for them and sure made our job as the entertainers easy.

Our Baby Girl is Here!

So we also have some big news thats our baby girl is finally here! She arrived on July 7, 2008 at 11:53am. She was born 8lbs. 11 1/2 oz. and 21 inches long. She was a very easy labor (they induced me and I got the drugs this time (epidural). She was night and day difference from my experience with Jonah, but they were equally beautiful. Jonah LOVES his baby sister and everyday he says awww, she is so cute and gives her hugs and kisses. The other day he actually picked her up when we weren't watching (but everything is ok). She has been a VERY good baby so far, eating and sleeping well and she is just perfect. See for yourself.

OK, so we've been in our new place for a little over two months now, but finally here are some pictures of it. We are so happy here...it has everything we need. It is in a nice neighborhood (mostly elderly) and we have great next door neighbors that are always giving us fresh produce from their garden. Aside from the consistent over 100+ degree weather and the fires that have coated us with a blanket of smoke, it really is the perfect scenario for us. Jonah was at Chucky Cheese for a cousin's birthday party and when Chucky came out he was doing all the dance moves with him, which was surprising because he is usually afraid of those in costume (as you can tell by the mistrust on his face in the picture), but he was having fun.

We're Back Online!

So, we have to repent for our lack of posting which has made our site very boring over the last 6 months. ALOT has happened since then and I will do my best to catch you up, as well as, post some pictures from a few highlights.

Since leaving Arizona we stopped over in Utah to say hello to our house and then went immediately to California for a month. We then went to New York to spend some much needed time with the grandparents for 2 months. We then came back to Utah after the holidays but decided to put our house on the market, which sold in 2 weeks flat. Now with that blessing we have since moved up to California and are currently living with the CA grandparents while we are house hunting. That pretty much sums up our life for now with some very big changes possibly on the horizon that I don't want to reveal until they are 100% confirmed. Oh yeah, most importantly, we are pregnant with our second child, a baby girl, due on July 3. Whew!!!

Quick Update

There is not much new to report here. We are over half way done down here in Arizona and its finally cooling off. I will actually be sad to leave. We have made some fun friends here. We had a short scare that Aaron was going to be deployed to Afghanistan, but it looks like that isn't going to happen any more...as of yet anyway. Hopefully, it will stay that way. Anyway, I haven't posted anything for a while, so I thought it was about time to show-off our cute little boy.

Ok, so maybe this isn't quite his girlfriend, but he likes to think so. She is 4 years old and her name is Kendall Hyatt. Aaron and I are friends with her parents because her dad is in Aaron's same training group down here in Arizona and they are also from Utah. Here we see that Jonah gets his dancing moves from his daddy.

For an update on Jonah. He has been progressing so well here and has hot a couple of milestones, including turning 2. He is currently interested in going potty on the big toilet. He is also learning to dribble a basketball and swim. He can now swim underwater all by himself...he just has a little trouble coming back up by himself.

So, we have officially moved down to Arizona, well, at least for the next 3 months. We really like it here. Well, at least I do...Aaron is bit to busy to really enjoy it, but I'm enjoying not being busy for once. It is quite the relaxing getaway for me personally. Here are a few photos of our home here.

After we said our goodbyes to the family it was time to also say goodbye to Aaron as well for a couple of months while he goes through more miltary training, so I accompanied Aaron on a long drive out to Oklahoma and left Jonah with his grandma (Aaron's mom). While we were there we went to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial which was quite moving. We are standing in front of the original site of the building, which is now replaced by a chair for each person that died in the bombing, all 168. In the second row there are smaller chairs representing the children in the daycare that were also casualties. All in all, it just reminds us to live each day like it's your last and always let the people you love know you love them because you never know when something like this or anything else can happen to them.

And THEN we had Matthew's graduation from BYU and he looks quite happy to be done doesn't he. Now I guess it's on to Columbia University. Its back to NY for Matt.

We then had Aaron's Officer Commissioning ceremony because he is finally graduated!!! Woo hoo! His parents got to be there for it as well so that was nice for him. His dad who left the National guard as a Captain got to swear him in.

So ALOT has happened over the last couple weeks which has made it hard to keep up with this, but I'm going to post some of the pictures from the exciting events that have happened.

First, we had James's missionary farewell. As all of you know, he is going to be going to Buenos Aires, Argentina in a few months but first he has to learn the language and teaching methods and things so we got to accompany him into the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, UT. Here we all are in front.

So, at a recent doctor's appointment I found out that the baby we recently lost was actually a boy. I didn't know that they were able to tell, but apparently it was confirmed. So, we decided to name the baby after all and we will be putting it on his headstone. We decided that his name will be Jakob Butterfield. Just thought you would all like to know.

So this is our new website where everyone can come to see fun photos, videos, messages (most of them probably of Jonah) that we post without having to worry about being able to open attachments...yay!
